The workshop organized by CHORA was testing how carbon emissions can be reduced in Xiamen. People from three institutes came together, London Metropolitan University, university of Buffalo and Xiamen University to study the potential for special urban projects and demonstrate how carbon emission can be reduced in building construction, how low energy building can be planned, how new sources of energy can be created inside the city, how the awareness for these projects can be created with large public.
By combining the local initiatives, existing construction plans and global carbon trading procedure, these new projects can be funded and managed and turn Xiamen into a showcase of climate change related pilot project. The essence of the project is combining the social economic and political issues.
The workshop runs between 14march and 19 March, and there are two highlights. First, on Saturday 17 march, scenario game in Xiamen international bank tower to test the potential for different pilot projects in different sites in Xiamen. Second, on Monday 19 march, a presentation of a selection of pilot projects in Xiamen city planning offices.
